2. Environmental protection activities based on ISO 14001

Sumida works to fully respond to environment-related laws and regulations and to determine how to respond even more closely to customer requests. We regularly monitor our progress towards achieving environmental targets, aiming to ensure our activities are producing results.

3. Reduction of environmentally damaging substances in product materials

To abide by the European RoHS Directive and other environmental laws, as well as to respond precisely to needs of its customers, Sumida is pursuing activities to reduce any environmentally damaging substances found in materials used in our products. Fundamentally, we are working to ensure that all products comply with the RoHS Directive.

Environmental Policy in Japan Region*

1. Sumida complies with applicable legal requirements which relate to our business activities and with other requirements to which we subscribe. We pledge to undertake regular environmental impact assessments as well as to conduct regular reviews of environmental policy aims and objectives.
2. We will work on an ongoing basis to achieve a high level of harmony between Sumida and the environment.
   • a) From the stage of development of our products we will make an utmost effort to save energy and resources and reduce our burden on the environment.
   • b) We will strive to reduce the use of environmentally harmful substances, and completely discontinue the use of substances proven to be non-essential.
   • c) We will strive to design and develop environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.
   • d) We will strive for the expansion in sales of environmentally friendly products.
   • e) We will strive for minimum energy and natural resource consumption.
   • f) We will strive for the proper classification of wastes, to enhance recycling ratios.
3. We will carry out education programs in respect to the environment for employees to increase awareness of environmental protection and encourage greater participation in activities to promote a better environment.
