FAQ

  1. What is the best preservation condition for keeping the RoHS compliant product?
The preservation environment must be controlled to prevent any caustic substance/effect (including airborne) or dew condensation. The expected ambient temperature should be between 5 and 40° C and relative humidity of 20 to 70%.

  2. Are there any differences between Lead Free products and RoHS compliant products?
Previously listed "lead free" products were studied and considered compliant, in regards to lead content only for lead-free soldering of terminal connection, case, and hoop. At that time, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE were not studied. So we can not say "lead free = RoHS compliance". In fact, only a few products reviewed their constituents on the six hazardous substances and eliminate them. We posted the list of the converted and existing (RoHS) complaint part types and Spec No. on Sumida’s website.

  3. When is the expected date of full conversion of Sumida products to RoHS compliant products?
After January, 2006, Sumida basically only manufacture RoHS compliant products.
NOTE: Regarding customized products, we will follow the date of specific customer requirements.

  4. How can customer distinguish the RoHS compliant devices from the non-compliant parts?
    • SUMIDA standard product (S-074-XXXX specification sheets): A RoHS logo will be added on specification and on the reels & boxes.
    • Customized products: We basically change the part name in conversion from lead free to RoHS compliance. Actually, we follow the customer’s requirement.

  5. Can customer order those non-compliant RoHS products?
Basically Sumida does not manufacture non-RoHS compliant standard products (S-074-XXXX) after January, 2006. However, we will continue to manufacture as customized products (to the original spec) if specific customers need the non-RoHS compliant product(s).

  6. What types of Hazard Substances might be typically included in Sumida RoHS non-compliant products?
Lead compound is used for solder and wire coating in some products. Hexavalent chromium is used for plating. Conversion to alternate material without hazardous substance is possible.
