Developments in Japan (the second update)

March 29th 2011

In view of the evolving developments in Japan, SUMIDA CORPORATION would like to provide further updates to our customers, business partners, investors, and shareholders.

Our global manufacturing activities including those in Japan are not affected and the factories have been operating as usual. Our operations outside of Japan have also been reviewing possible impacts from the Japan crisis for the mid-term, and we are confident that there are no significant adverse consequences.

With regard to our R&D centre in Sendai, it has resumed its business activities with the presence of most of our employees since the 22nd March. We are glad to inform you that there are no casualties among our employees, and that utilities services have been restored.

Nonetheless, since there are some facilities in the laboratory which need to be carefully assessed, we are still continuing our inspection. However, we expect that these will be completed within this week and that all functions of the laboratory will be restored to start the normal operation practice from the next week.

Our employees have been able to get back to their duties and this would be made easier in the coming days, with the continuing restoration of public transport services – e.g. train service (JR Joban Line and Tohoku Line) which our employees usually take will also be restored from the 2nd April. We will keep you informed abreast of further development in a timely manner.

We appreciate greatly the numerous expressions of trust, support, and good wishes from our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. We look forward to continuing and growing our relationship with you.
