SUMIDA CORPORATION Opens a New Satellite Factory in Vietnam to Extend it's Manufacturing Network

SUMIDA CORPORATION announced today that it has set up a new plant in Haiphong, Vietnam. This plant will maintain a close link with the existing manufacturing center of expertise and excellence in south China. It will also meet the needs of customers who require geographical alternatives in terms of manufacturing sites, and it will allow Sumida to diversify its manufacturing base and improve its cost structure.

Sumida’s subsidiary which will run the plant is CONG TY TNHH DIEN TU SUMIDA VIET NAM (SUMIDA ELECTRONIC VIETNAM CO., LTD). The general director is Mr. Tomonobu Furuta. The plant will produce electronic components like power transformers, choke coils, etc. for the power solutions business of Sumida. It will have 500 employees, when the plant is up and running, and up to 1000 if it is fully utilized.

With the opening of the Haiphong plant, Sumida reaches another milestone in the implementation of its Silk Road strategy – one of the key initiatives under the new Sumida Mid-term Business Plan 2010-2012 that was announced today.

Sumida embarked on its Silk Road strategy in 2008 and under the new Mid-Term Business Plan, will continue with the Sumida Silk Road to build a global cost-effective manufacturing and logistics network, responsive to customer needs on a global and regional basis.
